How to help children and teens manage their stress

When it comes to concession stand foods, it can be challenging to find healthy options. However, a certified nutrition coach would likely recommend the following five healthier choices:

  1. Grilled Chicken Sandwich: Opt for a grilled chicken sandwich instead of a fried chicken option. Look for whole wheat buns and load it up with fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and other vegetables. Avoid heavy sauces or dressings and opt for mustard or a light vinaigrette instead.

  2. Veggie Wraps: Look for veggie wraps that are loaded with a variety of colorful vegetables. These wraps can be a great source of fiber and nutrients. Choose whole wheat or spinach wraps for added nutrition and ask for dressings on the side to control the amount used.

  3. Fresh Fruit Cups: If available, go for a cup of fresh fruits. It can provide natural sugars, fiber, and various vitamins and minerals. Choose fruits like berries, melons, and citrus fruits for a refreshing and nutritious snack.

  4. Popcorn: Popcorn can be a relatively healthy snack option when prepared without excessive butter or salt. Look for air-popped popcorn or those with minimal added oil. It's a good source of whole grains and can be a lighter alternative to other snack choices.

  5. Greek Yogurt Parfait: A Greek yogurt parfait can be a satisfying and healthier dessert option. Look for low-fat or non-fat Greek yogurt and top it with fresh fruits, such as berries or sliced bananas. For added crunch, sprinkle some nuts or granola on top.

Remember, even with these healthier options, portion control is still important. Additionally, be mindful of condiments, dressings, and sauces, as they can often add extra calories, sugar, and unhealthy fats.
